Design Outside the Lines

Whether you are interested in a new color scheme for a single room or wanting to fully renovate your whole house, Design Outside the Lines is here for you! Located in Verrado- Buckeye, Arizona, Design Outside the Lines is a boutique residential interior design studio created in 2011 by owner and Principal Designer, Ashli Johnson. Ashli graduated Magna Cum Laude 2011 from Arizona State University – a FICA accredited school ranked number two in the country – earning a bachelors of science in Architecture and Design. This deeper knowledge of interior design from a scientific and logistical point of view is a quality all designers at Design Outside the Lines possess. This allows us to take on more complex and intricate remodels, which may require structural changes and adjustments. With experience in construction documents, fabric, furniture, color theory, materiality, and an exceptional ability to put ideas into detailed renderings, Design Outside the Lines is a step above the rest. We are a full service interior design company, taking your project from beginning to end, materials to linens, with as little stress on you as possible or we can assist you in finding contractors, flooring specialists, electricians, and other trades to help create your dream home. We are committed to making your space just that, YOUR space.

Our Team

Ashli

Ashli’s passion for interior design and architecture led her to make it her career. Friends and family have always sought her advice to aid in their remodels. She has worked extensively in fine fabrics and furnishing industry for 10 years and specializes in materiality and color. After graduating Magna Cum Laude from Arizona State University in 2011, she started her career at Est Est and worked on hospitality projects and specialized in contemporary homes. As a drafting and design educator, she furthered her understanding of the underlying architectural needs to completely renovate any space. Ashli then moved on to work for Towne, an interior design “to-the-trade only” showroom, and Cosa Belle Interiors, a residential design firm based in the affluent town of North Scottsdale, where she was part of a published interior design project. Ashli’s design aesthetic is modern and simple with sustainable and industrious flare. Attention to detail along with selecting pieces focused on form and function is one of Ashli’s main prerogatives. She is committed to showcasing the beauty in all things by finding a different way to view them, and make you love them for years to come.

Kerstin

Kerstin graduated Cum Laude from Arizona State University, Herberger Institute for Interior Design with a BSD  in 2022.  While completing her studies at the top of her class, she received multiple Design Excellence Awards for various projects and served as a Teacher's Assistant helping first and second year design students to learn and cultivate their computer modeling and design skills. In true homage to her dedication and spirit, she feels privileged and honored to have work with Habitat for Humanity and Framing a Dream - a non-profit organization which helps hospitalized children by designing unique handmade art pieces specific to each child.  She began her career in her Junior year as an intern with Design Outside the Lines Interiors and made such an impression on us, we were delighted to add her to our professional design team. Her aesthetic is a modern and contemporary look designed for longevity, functionality, and timeless artistic beauty. Her talents in Auto CAD, ADOBE, Revit, and Sketch-Up speak for themselves and allow our clients to witness their dreams come to life through Kerstin's passionate work. We strive to provide the best for our clients and (we are sure you'll agree that) Kerstin is no exception!
